Well I know this is not for everyone , but just because this might only affect a few is no reason not to look at the current research and look for links with neurodevelopment disorders . Im not totally sure what pictures to include in this post …….but if you see pictures of flowers ….you know why…..

Look, information is not readily available for this any problem that might affect a small proportion of society will be reflected in the amount of research money aimed at that area.

Without being too descriptive undescended testes is where the testes do not pass down naturally from an individuals belly into the scrotal sac . Its probably more common than you would think, Stanford University Medicine state that the condition occurs in about 3 in 100 births and can be as high as 1 in 20 male babies.

Preterm babies , small babies and families where this is familial seem to be the main causes. This is mostly treated by surgery or hormone treatment. This is no minor problem , it can cause infertility , cancer , hernias and emotional stress. The testes often descend on their own by six months of age.

So why on earth am I looking at this , this is surly a physical problem …right?, well to answer the question of the good looking gentleman in the front row , drinking a large latte…… its that I have noticed I have seen quite a few questions from men with this problem that mention anxiety issues . ( For example look at icliniq.com , . May 12 2022 and a question to Dr Raveendran. I just want to know is there anything in it .

Well there has been some research , PubMed ( where else) published an article in January 2018 ( 2018 Jan:96:153-161.) titled Cryptorchidism and increased risk of neurodevelopment disorders Chen et al . This cohort study looked at data from Denmark from the years 1979-2008 . Boys were studied for their outcomes if they had been identified as suffering from undefended testes . Other hazards were taken into account using Cox hazard regression statistical method ( if you understand the statistics and calculations involved in this ….im impressed…I don’t).

The study involved 884,083 infants ( boys) , with a 95% confidence the study found that sufferers were more likely to be diagnosed with intellectual disability , autism spectrum disorders , Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ( ADHD ) ..ANXIETY ( yes I know this is in capitals ) and also other behavioural/emotional disorders. Sometimes it is only one testes that is undescended , the above is true for those , but those with two undescended the risk of ADHD , intellectual disability and autistic spectrum disorder is increased further , except the risk for anxiety , this is unchanged at the higher likelihood already mentioned.

The above is really interesting , science is a story , where you seem to have identified the murderer , but facts keep changing throwing light on different suspects , in this case the second half of the book is still unwritten. It does look like Cryptorchidism might be another risk factor in Neurodevelopment disorders , but of course other pre natal or post natal factors could also be influencing the outcomes , we as in all my posts need further investigation. I wonder, as this is such a specific area and the last major research I can find was back in 2017 whether this research might take a long time to appear . Its frustrating that unlike some web sites who have so called definitive answers to everything linked to anxiety and trauma , if we truly want to follow the science , then answers are sometimes not yet there , just clues and we are left to do our best with the current level of research and medicine.

Here is your picture of a flower I promised ….
